How to settle auto liability claim without a laywer
You need a plan of attack. First learn what your case is worth in your jurisdiction. What do cases with similar facts and circumstances settle for? Ask a paralegal, a court member, or even an attorney. Then evaluate if you can settle with your claim adjuster for that price.
Make sure you read your medical records. The adjuster will show you any record that points to the fact you are ok and you should have recovered by the time you are reaching settlement. However, you need to read your records for just the opposite, indication that the injury is more serious than the adjuster is making it to be. Either way, you need to read your medical records! It’s critical.
Insurance adjusters will use any information against you. Be aware when dealing with your insurance company. They will dig anything they can so they can decrease the value of your settlement. I have seen adjuster lie about what the records say and get away with it. The only way to really tell is by being one step ahead and reading before you call.
Also point out anything your doctor says that indicates a more severe injury. If you have to have extensive treatment and possible consequences because of the injury then point that out to the adjuster. Two can play that game.
