Car accident? Waiting for the police? This is the best time to act!

If you are involved in car accident and suddenly you find yourself waiting for the police, this could be the best time to collect some critical information that could win your case. Depending on how hard was the impact to your car, and how hurt you are, you could collect information that would help your insurance adjuster defend your rights!

During this time, you could draft a little diagram showing streets, position of the vehicles, and location of witness. You could also diagram a quick reminder of the posted traffic signs. If you have a camera phone, or a camera in your car, taking pictures of the scene is a good idea. Show the location of the vehicle and show any obstructions of visibility. Taking good pictures could win your case.

This is probably the only time to talk to the other party. Although you do not want to sound apologetic (like you are accepting fault), you do want to know what is the other party claiming, if the other person I anxious then you should just get back in your car.

Be wary of those that tell you that they will take care of your damages. Most likely they just want to live the scene of the accident. If that happens, and you need the police two days later, there is a very high likelihood that they will not come out. That would mean that if that party has no insurance, they just hit you and got away with it (not even getting a ticket).
