Have you read your Policy Declarations Page?

Your Policy Declarations page is the very first page in your insurance policy that will contain all the information that will control every transaction between you and your insurance company. This page is the most critical piece of the entire policy. If there is a mistake in this page, the insurance company can deny coverage.

Why can they deny coverage if your agent told that something was covered, or that you were supposed to have certain coverages or limits that you did not? Because when the insurance company gives you this page, you have a “duty” to read the policy declarations page and tell the agent or the insurance company directly of any mistakes.
If for example you do not correct the color of your vehicle, or the VIN number, the insurance company will point at the policy declarations page and tell you that the car that was on the accident is not the car in the policy, and therefore no coverage can be granted.

This can be over turned, of course, but it can take up to 30 days or more to make the insurance company correct the mistake. On the mean time, you are covering your own damages. Read more…
