The issue is not to file the claim; the issue is to stay away from getting into an accident!
The weather is changing rapidly. Prepare yourself for what winter has to offer. Snow is not here yet, but you can start preparing (budgeting) for those snow tires, sand, salt, anti freeze, etc. Keeping a warm coat in you car can become very useful in case you end up in the ditch!
Also, a mechanical inspection should be on check. It is a lot harder to work on vehicles when it is freezing cold and there is a rush at the body and mechanical shops. So schedule something when you know those folks will have time to look over everything in your car, not just get you in and out because they have a line of cars looking for snow tires.
Remember to go to a trusted mechanic so you have the peace of mind that you will not get in an accident because your car failed to perform as you expected.
